At an early age his parents, probably in the hope of channelling his energy, encouraged him to try  different types of sports. Kilian enjoyed everything from kickboxing to track and field events, running alpine trails, whitewater rafting, skiing or month long expeditions by bike to very remote places.  Sports of all kinds nourished his expertise in complex outdoor productions and working in harsh conditions. Born to an Irish mother and a German father, Kilian seamlessly blends his influences of raw documentary-style storytelling with the classy advertising world he was trained in. His sense of composition and mastery of lighting techniques bring a unique perspective, transforming ordinary scenes into visual experiences. Over the past years he has worked with many international teams on various projects, honing both skills and networks. As a filmmaker, Kilian weaves together compelling narratives that explore being human in a calm, intimate yet authentic way. He combines technical expertise with an innate ability to evoke genuine emotions, leaving a lasting impact on viewers.

Kilian co-owns the production company Gronlander with his partner Johannes Jank. He hosts the cultural co-working space and creative hub @kesselhaus_fuerth in Furth,  Bavaria with an eclectic group of artists and creatives. He lives in Nuremberg, Germany with his family.

Over the past ten years he has worked for international clients such as Adidas, EpicTV, Schwalbe Tires, Pinion, Ortlieb, Siemens, Puma, National Geographic, Boston Consulting Group, Toolcraft, Tout Terrain and many others.
